Staffie Smiles Rescue - July Update

Olivia - Update

Picture
Some big news at SSR that we were able to place Olivia in
a temporary foster home, so she was able to have her operation to have her eye removed.

Olivia handled the operation like a champ, you wouldn't even think she had anything done! She has had a great recovery, thanks very much to her incredible foster mum.

We have been able to really assess Olivia whilst in her foster home as well, she is such a bright cookie! she loves learning and has all her commands down to a T, she has really impressed us all!

Olivia is brilliant in a home, she is house trained and has been left for up to an hour with no issues, Olivia is a bit fearful around men so we have been using this as a training approach & having positive experiences, once she realised men were treat dispensers it was all good!

There has been lots of walks when quiet, were we have worked on her lead work and also plenty of sniffs and getting used to being out and about. There has also been time at secure field for Olivia to unwind and play with her toys, she enjoys a good game of fetch.

@BullerzK9Training have also came out to assess Olivia's reactivity with dogs, we know have a plan in place to address this and to also muzzle train Olivia, any new home would have our full support in behaviourist help with Olivia.

Dogs in Kennels

We have launched our Kennel Sponsorship - from £10 a month you can sponsor Jaz, Dobby, King or Olivia.

Kennel fees are a huge expense for a small charity and these funds will go towards kennels, medication, vet bills, behaviourist support whilst we get our dogs ready for their forever homes.

Please head to the link below to find out more information and how to become a Kennel Sponsor.

Adoptions

Ace, Mabel & Rocky have all been adopted in June 💗

Ace has settled in really well to his new home and his dad says he is a very loveable boy, there has been many trips to the parks were Ace enjoys trying to chase birds.

Mabel is enjoying her new life with her mum and dad, they can't imagine life without her! there has been loads of new toys, cuddles on the couch and new walks to enjoy, Mabel even had her first splash in the loch!

Rocky is loving life at his new home - there has already been many trips to beaches, country walks and meeting the extended family! Rocky has even made doggy friends, he particularly loves meeting his friend Wilbur for some zoomies!

Kennel Build

Picture

We had some exciting news in June, we took delivery off our bespoke Kennels! Kennels is a huge expense for us and of our team members has very kindly donated a piece of her garden and we will have kennel space for 2 dogs going forward.

In July we have had the fencing built around the kennels to secure them and give the dogs some outdoor space, we know need to sort the ground and the kennel floors need to be sealed and painted.

These kennels will help us save vital funds, but it will also be in the best interest of our harder-to-rehome dogs. Especially those who would benefit from a quieter space and being closer to our volunteer team for walks and cuddles everyday. Our behaviourist will continue to visit on a regular basis for training and rehabilitation.

Please note, that this is not a permanent solution for long-term dogs, our intention is very much to rehome these dogs once they are ready to be rehomed.

We know this is a big ask of our supporters. Especially as you've already shown us so much generosity in these difficult times. Any donation towards our kennel build is greatly appreciated.
