More about me
Rico came into our kennels , he was assessed over a period of time , he showed us how loving and sweet he was but after a while he began to get really stressed in kennels. It was really sad to see how stressed out he was. We then found an experienced foster home for him to go to.
From his foster mum -
Rico did really well in his foster home. He can be left for a few hours on his own, he gets comfy on his chair and just sleeps. He loves playing with his toys, snuffle mat and kong and will leave them when asked to. He would walk by dogs to start with as he just ignored them, his foster mum adored him and saw how sweet, loving and loyal he is. He's very sooky and loved his cuddles.
Rico bonds closely to his "family", he is a very loving boy. He likes quiet walks where he can take his time sniffing about, exploring, he sleeps in the sitting room by himself without a peep. He has so much potential.
His foster home was in the city centre and after a time Rico started to get really stressed again and be unhappy around dogs, he also started to show some unwanted behaviour such as growling at strangers, after doing this he would know it was wrong and get upset with himself and go away and hid, this was so sad to see.
He was also trigger stacking and found it really hard to relax and decompress he was not a happy boy, it felt like he had the weight of the world on his wee shoulders.
We realised he needed more help than we could give him and he really deserved a chance to be a happy boy again.
A decision was made to get Rico some more help. We reached out to Ryan at Bankhouse Emergency Kennels And Rehabilitation. These kennels work in-depth with dogs that show signs of dog aggression, resource guarding, fear or aggression. Each dog has a programme tailored to their needs and once the dogs settle with them and start the restart process there smiles come back and they enjoy each and every step of there experience .
Rico has been with them for over a month now and had been doing really well. He has 4 - 5 different handlers who he works with everyday. He walks by dogs now with no issues at all. He is more relaxed and focused on his handlers, he really enjoys the rural location of the kennels. He is also being fed on a raw diet.
Rico was starting to show some resource guarding issues. He is now getting the help he needs, his training is being carried out safely and securely by professionals.
We have no doubt that magic will be worked at Ryan's rehab kennels and Rico will overcome his fears.
Rico will be in this program as long as he needs to be. He will be following a programme when he leaves kennels and will need a specific type of home.
This will be a foster home with Support to start with.
